Michiel Schotten, M.Sc.

Michiel is a researcher and fundraiser at OSI. Originally from the Netherlands, Michiel holds an M.S. in Marine Biology from the University of Groningen. He is presently pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Groningen. During his research Michiel developed the 4-channel UDDAS, an acoustic/video diver-operated recording device. In the process, he gained valuable skills in acoustics and electronics. With this new tool, Michiel studies the echolocation and communication behavior of wild dolphins. His research interests include marine mammal acoustics, biosonar perception, and cognition, as well as marine ecology in a broader sense and the preservation of our marine environment. Besides research, Michiel enjoys teaching, writing, making music and water sports.
